Events and Programs

Over the years Open Doors has supported animal rescue programs and charities with:

*  events such as: Dogfest (an annual day of fun, education, and adoption for 2- and 4-legged alike)
Salutes to Pets & Heroes (an elegant dinner with awards for those on the front line of animal rescue)

* our books:
Bark Up the Right Tree, Lessons from a Rescued Dog
Rescued Dogs on the Go! dates-to-remember book

* donations to both large groups like ASPCA and smaller rescue groups to help with their front-line work

* Active involvement of our therapy rescue-dog Jessie (whom we had from 2007 until her death in 2013): visiting those in
nursing homes, educating and entertaining children in summer camps, churches and schools, walking for the homeless and
for pancreatic and breast cancer research, befriending children going through tough times (through Children's Aid and Family
Services Pre-Adoptive Treatment Home), enjoying developmentally-disabled adults in the Spectrum for Living housing, etc.

People-oriented programs have included:

* New Horizons: low-cost housing for people needing a helping hand in order to pursue their dreams. Among the "graduates"
of this program is a young woman who was able to attend nursing school and earn her RN degree. She now owns a modest
condo for herself and her young son, and is working at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in NYC

* musical grants for children (with Youth Song and Happy Piano thus far)

* interest-free loans, security deposits, and educational scholarships

* courses and Bible studies (e.g., a six-week happiness course called "Happy and Free: a Change in Me" and a variety of Bible-
   related storytelling meetings and presentations)

Open Doors is now based in Florida, as of September 2012. From this location we continue to support and encourage the animal rescue groups in both NJ and FL. We are maintaining our annual Dogfest for 2014, our Senior-to-Senior program to help older dogs and our Annabelle's Way which provides solace and financial assistance for people who need to euthanize beloved pets (something Ruth had to do for her cat, Annabelle, in 2011 and her dog, Jessie, in 2013)

But most especially, we are now dedicating ourselves to helping people in the following ways:

* donations to large organizations like Salvation Army, American Bible Society, etc.

* our own Lord Provides Closer-Walk grant program (started in 2013) offering financial aid for God's children in need and/or
doing His work here on Earth.

* Our Bible Read-Thru to help people draw closer to God by reading the Bible through in a year, which includes our
reading schedulemonthly newsletters, and feedback tab

* Our latest project, a Miracle House Program:

These soon-to-open doors will lead to life-changing opportunities for those in need, as we offer:

* affordable housing and management responsibilities to a struggling family now living in one tiny room * small-group gatherings to help people enrich their lives and draw closer to the Lord, and * temporary, short-term accommodations for visitors overseen by approved sponsors Click here for a Guest-in-Residence application and click here for a copy of our "Expect-a-Miracle Rules"
